Developing appropriate screening criteria is critical for all rental housing providers. A rental housing provider who establishes appropriate screening criteria should find, more often than not, that they end up with tenants who pay rent on time and who adhere to house rules and policies.

Consistent application of lawful screening criteria, including renting to the first applicant who qualifies, will also help protect against claims of discrimination.

This webinar will discuss the categories of information that should and should not be considered as part of the tenant screening process, and the types of policies rental housing providers should have in place to deal with common issues in the screening process, including:

•    Setting an appropriate income standard
•    Considerations for credit requirements
•    Evaluating rental history
•    Avoiding criteria that violate fair housing laws
